A black single-lens reflex camera built by the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant (KMZ) on the basis of the Zenit 12sd, produced from 1990 to 2005. Shoots standard 135 (35mm) film with a 24 × 36 mm frame.

The 122 was the progressive model of its generation: it added TTL metering — reading scene brightness straight through the lens — which is markedly more accurate than the external selenium cells of earlier Zenits. It also brought a rewind crank and a multi-slot take-up spool. Compact, straightforward and fully manual.

The body is cast aluminium with a mechanical focal-plane shutter. Shutter speeds: 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30 and B. The frame counter resets itself when you engage rewind. A self-timer (9–15 second delay), tripod socket and central flash sync contact round out the feature set.
