Polaroid I-2 Instant Camera
The Polaroid I-2 is a modern, premium analogue instant camera — a genuine step up for the format. Its three-element autofocus lens is driven by a LiDAR rangefinder that sets focus by measuring how far away the subject actually is, and keeps working in difficult light.
The lens is the headline. At 98 mm f/8 it is equivalent to roughly 50 mm f/2.8 on a 35mm camera — a wider aperture than most of its rivals. Shutter speeds run from 1/250 all the way to 30 seconds on long manual exposures, with ±2 stops of exposure compensation.
Full manual control
Beyond full auto you get aperture priority, shutter priority and complete manual exposure. Everything can be driven from the camera itself: press the button above the power switch to change modes, then adjust with the ring around the lens while a small rear screen shows where you are. A dedicated flash button turns the flash on and off. The companion smartphone app adds remote control of shutter and aperture.
The I-2 pairs over Bluetooth, so remote shutter release is available for self-portraits — or use the built-in timer.
A note on flash
The flash sits beside the lens, and whatever you are shooting, leave it on. Instant film wants every photon it can get, and a room that looks well lit to your eye usually is not. The only times to switch it off are bright daylight outdoors or controlled studio lighting.
